Save yourself some cash by picking up a used ski rack from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. I was able to snag a lightly used one for $120. Stationary models go for anywhere between $10-$50.
I haven’t officially used this rack yet but the roof installation was straightforward and easy. I have aero-style bars for reference and they fit perfectly. Apologies to my boyfriend who lost a little skin trying to snap one of the straps on. Since I am 5’3” I decided to splurge for the model that extends out for easy-loading. If you are tall or have a low profile vehicle I would suggest getting the stationary model to save some $$. The slides seem like one more thing that could break, in my opinion, so would not have opted for that version under different circumstances. I do trust the Thule brand and the reviews were good so I have high expectations for this season’s snow fall!
If buying used:
double check both sets of keys and mounts are functioning and included
confirm the slides, locks and straps are in good working order
check the compatibility of the mounts with the bars on your vehicle
